Pack idling is a tablet weaving technique where a pattern can be worked by splitting the cards into two or more packs. On each row, at least one pack remains idle, while the cards in the remaining packs are turned. A two-pack example is the ‘Cambridge diamonds’ pattern, originally thought to have been Saxon in origin.
